Daddy

This is a picture of my dear dad in front of Graves Hall on the campus of Morehouse. It's been over 30 years since he's been on the campus. We went this year for Father's Day. It was nice to take a trip down memory lane with him.

What memories have your parents share with you lately?

I hope everyone had a blessed weekend!

Blessings!!

Family Layout

I did a scrapbook layout of the group family reunion. The journaling is behind the photo. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know everyone in the photo. Maybe some of you can help me out.

Blessings!

Family Reunion

WARNING!!! THIS IS A LONG POST...

Family Reunion: Often an annual event, a family reunion takes place on a specified day each year for the purpose of keeping an extended family closer together. Some reunions may be held less often.

A typical family reunion will assemble the survivors of grandparents, great-grandparents and up for a meal, some recreation and discussion. The older attendees are generally parents, siblings or first cousins while the youngest could be second, third or fourth cousins.

The 20th Annual MacDaniel, Morris, Sims Family Reunion was a blast. Family from all over the country attended and community was enjoyed by all. A lovely tribue was given to Auntie Fannie and picture of her was on the t-shirts, which I need to get.

Saturday night was family bowling night at the Lightening Strikes Bowling Alley. Here are a few pictures.

My "Favorite Auntie" Minnie Sims Thompson.

Benita Sims-McClean and her youngest-- Charles. He is too cute!!! Everyone kept asking her what she was feeding that boy! LOL!!!

Brian Sims and his wife Janene

Jule Sims "My Daddy" trying to get his bowl on. You know his nephew's had to clown him and egg on his competitive nature. We had a great time!!!

The little fellow in the orange shirt is William's friend Isaac. He hung out with William and had a good time too. William's cousin treated him just like family too!

I didn't realize how many preachers we had in our family. In fact, Uncle Walter is a preacher and he has two sons that are preachers.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:15

The Preachers!

Deron MacDaniel (I met him for the first time at the Reunion).

Uncle Walter and CJ Sims. Walter Jr. wasn't there and I didn't get any good pictures of Anthony. I wonder if little CJ is going to be a third generation preacher...

All three are pastors-- in one family!

More pictures!

Anthony's Wife, Dwayne MacDaniel, Felicia Sims, Uncle James MacDaniel, and Erin (looking like her Auntie Benita) Sims.

And more...

Uncle Mac and his wife Sadie, Renee, Marcus, Renee, Daddy, and Sammy.

OK guys! I want some family participation here. I put this blog on hold until the reunion. So you could see how serious I am about this. Some of you have even seen my scrapbooks. So help a sista out.

Please send pictures, updates, stories, anything that I can post to the blog and keep the family updated on. And of course leave comments. Let me know how you feel about the blog. I will post updates once a week. If you have anything you want to share just shoot me an email and I will post it right up. I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Love you much!

Moratorium

Moratorium: any authorize delay or stopping of some specified activity.

They say that family is the hardest sale. But I'm not trying to sell you all anything. Anyway, I'm going to stop posting for a while since I'm not getting any feedback from you all.

Maybe after the family reunion, I can get you guys excited about keeping our family alive.

Until then-- be blessed.

Patriarch

Patriarch: The father and ruler of a family or tribe. . .

William Henry Sims was a man who lived a hard life. He was a womanizer, a drunk, and as mean as a rattlesnake. But when faced with the daunting responsibility of raising 7 children singlehandedly, he didn't run-- like many men have done that were put in his shoes. Instead, he dug down and faced his responsibilities head on. He taught his children to be strong and that duty to family was always first. He did this by example.

He ruled with an iron fist. . .

He loved from a distance. . .

He died as a man who believed in duty to family. . .

WH's legacy lives on today. I, his granddaughter, who was taught by my father, his son-- that duty to family always comes first have devotedly held on to those beliefs.

Family first.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
Genesis 17:5

I'm so happy that we are keeping his memory alive! Many of us never met him and only have heard stories about him. I don't have a picture yet (Whoever has one, please send or email me a copy), but I do have this-- which I see as a part of him.

You can see his parents names and his signature at the bottom. He signed it in 1936, over 70 years ago. Wow! That's so amazing to me.

Oh how I love history!

I hope you guys get on the band wagon with me.

  • Tracie-- why haven't I heard from you?
  • Jack-- I know I should be hearing from you.
  • Brian-- you are not off the hook either.

Let's keep his legacy alive and the family together.

Remember WH? "Duty to family."

Have a blessed week.

Next week I will post what I know about Virginia McDaniel. Any info that you all have, please share. Thanks!

Tradition

Tradition: a long established custom or practice that has the effect of an unwritten law. . . handed down through the generations.

Every since I can remember Easter Sunday in my family was about dying and decorating eggs and going to church in our Sunday's best to commemorate Jesus Christ's resurrection.

Here's to keeping family tradition alive!

The king gave this order to all the people: "Celebrate the Passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant."
2 Kings 23:21

No pictures today-- just remembering that Christ is risen.

Praise the Lord!

P.S. Beginning today, I will post once a week on Sunday.

Blessings,
Adriann
